‘In my Genes’ by Lupita Nyong’o

Mwaura says in the film ‘In My Genes’ that he had as a child dreamt of being black. He does not anymore. For then he would lose his identity and become one in the crowd. Anyone who has albinism in Kenya is called ‘mzungu’ which means white person in Swahili. One can never hide being Albino, never, blend. It is not just to deal with prejudice and the outside world but also all the health risks: sensitivity to the sun, the risk of blindness and skin cancer.

In the film, we meet eight people, both young and old, each with albinism. They argue with humour and integrity about their situation and how their lives are affected in terms ranging form alienation and diseases, sexuality, identity and love relationships.

‘Soul Boy’ by Hawa Essumans

Abil wakes up one morning at his home in Nairobi slums and discovers that his father’s soul has disappeared. The boy now has twenty-four hours in which to resdiscover the soul before it gets lost. A magical tale of a boy’s struggle, which is almost entirely shot in Kibera slums of Nairobi, one of the world’s largest slums.

Soul Boy is produced in cooperation with the German director Tom Tykwers (director of the kultförklararde Run Lola Run 1998). This photo is strance and beautiful and Hawa Essuman has created a story completely beyond the stereotypical images we are accustomed to see. A story full of love and hope.

Kenyan Parliament-Full Of Kenyan Prisoners On The Run!!!

Posted on February 19, 2010. Filed under: 1 |

The picture on the left is of a Kenyan parliament, and the picture on the right is of a Kenyan prison. I drown in my own blood when I see this picture of our parliament building because this is where  the most corrupt Kenyans hide, infact the building should be turned into a prison when all the members of parliament are seated. They should be let to spend ONLY 2 nights as the Kenyan prisoners on the right ,most of whom are charged for petty crimes, like stealing a cow, stealing maize, and maybe even for not committing any crime. The big offenders go jail free while the petty offenders suffer. The big offenders can only be suspended from their duty, while the petty offenders are not even given a day for investigation before they are loaded on a truck and poured to jail.

In that building you are seeing, we have people who have made themselves filthy rich for stealing millions of shillings from their own ministries or organisations, they have stolen from the poor Kenyans you are seeing sleeping like pigs in a prison.I think even pigs sleep better.

Most of them are old, they have nothing to loose if the country drowns into a bloodshed, they have their children abroad and they have the money to enable them charter a flight and flee the country when things get hot.

In the prison you are seeing on the right, thats where we have an innocent Kenyan, who has been jailed because he could not agree with his boss and for that reason, the boss sent cops to pick him and jail him for selling cannabis,a crime they did not do, he will serve upto five years or more. This is one person that had a good vision and good ambitions, he has a wife and children, he was young, had a good home, but by the time he comes out, all that is gone.We can get a good leader from this prison than from the parliament building we are seeing…..

2012 is around the corner and yet our leaders are still squabbling…..how stupid will we be to re-elect them back?

Is Tithe A Must As In The bible…

Posted on February 16, 2010. Filed under: 1 |

My daughter has been texting me that I should remember to give tithe( ten percent of my entire income) to the church according to the bible, I did call her and we started a discussion about tithe. I need help from pastors Muirani, pastor Samson and pastor Tilla.I am not against giving tithe, but my argument was this.Nowadays, we have so many churches that have been started by individuals, and according to my daughters church, they receive  a blank  invoice every month so that they can fill in the 10 percent of their income, i argued that that was wrong.A tithe should be a voluntary thing and not a compulsory one.

I even gave an example of a man I knew in Kenya that contributed his entire property and assets to the church, because he was convinced that the more tithe you give, the more you receive. This man became so poor that he started to borrow money from friends.

I continued to argue, that you dont neccessarily have to give tithe but the help and contributions you offer to people who are suffering can also be termed as a tithe in the eyes of God,so you do not have to give tithe to the church while you have people whom you can help with that amount.

I have heard that many of these churches operated by individuals especially by the west Africans ,are just for business purposes, the tithe that is paid goes to their pockets and thats why many of them are so wealthy, while the tithe donors are poor.

I gave my daughter an example of how the whole world believes in the bible but there has never been any occassion where a goverment has sent an invoice to someones address to pay tithe, but they do send a tax paying invoice every year to be paid to the state.

Can someone please  explain if  tithe is  compulsory, and if is ,to which church should it be paid, catholic, protestant, new life and so on?
