The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced on Monday (12/08/2008) that non-immigrants in the United States on “T” and “U” visas will now have a path to lawful permanent residence in the United States.

The interim final rule will implement provisions of the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000 thirty (30) days after it is published in the Federal Register.

The “T” visa is a non-immigrant classification for people who are victims of a severe form of human trafficking. The “U” visa status is a non-immigrant classification for victims of certain crimes who are willing to assist government officials in the investigation of the criminal activity.
