Inside The ODMS Manifesto

The ODM manifesto unveiled by the Party’s presidential candidate Raila Odinga and other top leaders outlines 11 key areas aimed at giving Kenyans new hope. Dubbed “the Real Change” ODM Presidential candidate Raila Odinga said this was the party’s covenant with the people of Kenya.The Key pillars in the Manifesto are:GOVERNANCE: The party guarantee Kenyans a new constitution within six months of coming to office. The constitution will ensure Executive Accountability, Equity and Devolution of Power. PROSPERITY AND ERADICATION OF POVERTY: The party will introduce a national social protection program for the poor households by providing monthly cash transfers.This will reduce poverty and inequality by providing minimum levels of income for the extremely poor.

URBAN RENEWAL: The party will ensure that Nairobi becomes a regional hub for commerce and finance through the introduction of 24 hrs business program.

INFRASTRUCTURE: The party will invest at least 10 % of the GDP on the development of infrastructure over the next 5 years to rejuvenate various sectors of the economy.

EMPLOYMENT: The party will open Jobseekers’ officers in major cities and towns and embark on a program to assist those who have completed secondary school, college and university to secure jobs.

HEALTH: ODM will provide free health care to all children under the age of 5 years. The safe motherhood program will also be expanded in all districts.

EDUCATION: The party will seek to introduce free quality secondary education with a system of comprehensive basic education from early childhood to Form Four.

CRIME: Crime in “hot spots” will be mapped in urban areas and rural areas where well trained and equipped police officers will be deployed.

GENDER: The party will intensify efforts and actions to redress the existing persistent gender disparities in the country. Women will be fully intergrated into the society.

ENVIRONMENT: ODM will introduce measures to combat escalating environment degradation and desertification through viable environmental policies.

SPORTS: The party will develop a progressive sports policy and expand existeing opportunities for excellence in sports.
